AGEING WELL MATTERS

The Ageing Well Matters program is designed to provide those in their second half of life an opportunity to have meaningful connections and conversations around significant life issues that present themselves throughout the ageing journey.

EXERCISE

Seniors Exercise

10:30am – 11:30am every Tuesday in the church hall.

This exercise program for men and women aims to provide the opportunity for both social interaction and a gentle physical fitness program tailored to the 65+ age group.  The weight-bearing exercises aim to improve mobility, flexibility and bone density in an enjoyable, non-threatening atmosphere.

Special emphasis is placed on balance exercises, to reduce the prevalence of falls.  Led by a qualified fitness instructor, the exercises aim to increase confidence and provide enjoyment for senior members of our community who are less able to access safe, alternative exercise programs.

INTERNATIONAL MISSION PROJECT

After discussions within the leadership team, it has been decided to focus on a mission project outside of our own local ministries.

Our minister, David, has strong connections with Martin and Beena Philip from Santa Cruz in India who manage the Bethesda Life Centre with their work to:

• Provide & protect children who need care in our residential care homes
• Provide help for AIDS victims in the form of groceries, clothing & medicines
• Equip children who have learning difficulties in our special school
• Facilitate self-reliance among women in distress by teaching them new skills
• Facilitate self-reliance among HIV-affected men and women by giving interest-free micro-loans
• Prevent child trafficking through education and life-transformation.

Much of their support has come from their partnership with the James 1v27 Foundation from the UK whose vision is based on the James reading: “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you”, but due to the Covid distress, financial support has decreased.

The leadership has made a commitment to send $100 monthly for a year. Ten percent of the funds raised by the Harvest Table will support this commitment with other opportunities to increase the amount during the year. Because of the personal relationship David has with this project, we are confident that 100% of the funds will be used to support this vision.

While our Harvest Tables are full to overflowing, it is indeed satisfying to know that we can provide funds to buy food for those whose tables are empty.

If you are interested in being more involved, please have a chat to Rhonda Smedley. Thankyou for all those that contribute to the Harvest Table, either by bringing food along or purchasing the goodies.
